Nutrition And Food Habits
The food we eat has a direct relation to the nutrition intake that our body gets. This is a major challenge for billions of people across the world. Around fifty percent of the world’s population (3 billion) may be suffering from malnutrition. This vast section of the population could be deprived of the basic daily RDA (Recommended Dietary Allowance). They may not be in a position to intake required protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals. This leads to classic symptoms associated with malnutrition. It could range from infant death, stunted growth improper development of mental health just to name a few. In the recent past, we have started highlighting the nutritional deficiencies that cause male pattern baldness and the remediation measures to overcome it.
On the other hand, millions of people could be in a position to afford to require RDA. But they may be ending up taking the wrong mix of nutrition, which is focused more towards carbohydrates and saturated fatty substances. Their problem is lack of a food habit, which is complete. This leads to problems like obesity, more than optimal weight, hypertension and blood sugar. And, that’s why weight loss management is the priority for many.
Overweight And Obesity
Obesity is one of the biggest health challenges facing large sections of humanity. Though being overweight was a problem a few decades ago, it has become a major health challenge because of modern lifestyle. Wrong food habits sedentary lifestyle with little or no exercise and unhealthy food habits are the main reasons for being overweight or obese. This leads to a number of health challenges ranging from cardiovascular problems, kidney ailments, and fatty liver and so on. It is also the biggest contributor to hypertension and increased level of blood sugar in the body. When faced with hypertension one can resort to taking blood pressure medication to stop it from leading to more serious diseases. It also makes a person lethargic and inactive. It impacts his/her social and personal life also. Lack of sex drive can also be attributed to obesity.

Unfortunately, as of now, there is no complete cure for this disease. Therefore, prevention is the only way forward. Research is moving fast and hopefully, in the next five to ten years, we could see a cure for this medical condition.
One of the most dreaded disease cancers continues to be one of the biggest killers in today’s world. Men, women, and children are equally at risk as far as cancer is concerned. The reason why some health cells mutilate and become cancerous is a big mystery. Unless the basic reason is identified, a cure could still be a few years away. However, there is a pattern to this disease. It has something to do with genes. If parents and grandparents have a history of cancer, there is a probability that the next generation could also suffer from this disease. There are other factors which could also increase the risk of cancer. These include unhealthy lifestyle, smoking and abusing of alcoholic substances, too much of pollution leading to increased free radical activity. It is a disease which impacts all social structures and does not differentiate between men and women.
Another big health challenge is related to the mind. Our brain is a complex organ and not much is understood about its functioning. Hence, there could be millions of people in the lowest spectrum of society who could be suffering from mental illnesses without being noticed either by them or their family members. Modern day lifestyle also contributes a lot to mental illnesses. Many children could be born with mental conditions ranging from Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorders just a name a few. Traumatic experiences in life could also lead to different types mental illnesses. A bad childhood, death of near and dear one’s sexual abuse, marital discord are some of the main man-made reasons for people suffering from various types of mental diseases.
Apart from the above diseases caused by virus and bacteria are also big threats to the health of the modern man. Over the last few decades, we have seen some different types of diseases including swine flu, SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) and much more. Tuberculosis still continues to affect millions of people in the third world and it is a big health challenge for society as a whole.
The above are just a few examples of major health challenges faced by the world today. There could be dozens of many other diseases and health conditions which could kill, disable and prevent the human being from carrying out their normal daily activities. It is a big challenge to combat these diseases and it calls for a complete and totally new approach for addressing this major challenge facing mankind.
