Is There a Relationship With Cigerette Smoking and Lung Cancer?

There is a direct relationship between smoking and lung cancer.

The vast majority of Americans, 90%, diagnosed with lung cancer are, or were, smokers.

If you have never smoked, you are unlikely to get lung cancer. However, living with a smoker, working in a smoky environment and exposure to certain chemicals also increase your risk.

Smoking and lung cancer are directly related to how many cigarettes, each day, are smoked.

Although it is known that smoking and lung cancer are directly related, it is not so easy to quit smoking. People often start smoking when they are very young and cigarettes are very addictive.

While there is some risk of lung cancer for many years after you quit smoking, however the risk does decrease over time time.

"A cigarette is a euphemism for a cleverly crafted product that delivers just the right amount of nicotine to keep its user addicted for life before killing the person.'' World Health Organization director-general Gro Harlem Brundtland
