The Life-Health Balance

Saturday, August 9th, 2008
by Healthy Wealthy nWise

Hilton Johnson and his wife, Lisa, are paving the way in the health coaching industry. They are co-founders of Hilton Johnson Productions, Inc., HealthCoachTraining and HealthCoachingU, beginning back in 1990 by offering innovative coaching programs. They used web-based technology for training, and now they offer a 12-month certification training program that trains people in both health and coaching.

The new certification program is more than just health and coaching, though. It also focuses on marketing and sales techniques because even the best coach has to know how to find and keep clients. Hilton has worked with many of the industry’s top leaders including Bob Proctor, Brian Tracy, T. Harv Eker, Zig Ziglar, Marcia Wieder, Loral Langemeier and Vic Johnson.

Like most people, Hilton Johnson’s passions have changed with time. He didn’t start out as a health nut. He was mostly interested in music and women in his younger days. He stopped chasing women when he met his wife, but it was his brother’s sudden heart attack death that changed his music passion into a health passion.

The death of his brother caused Hilton Johnson to stop and take a look at his own health, and in fact, it was his brother?s death that saved his own life. Hilton ended up with a five-way bypass surgery. People all over the world are ticking time bombs of health, but they have no idea anything is wrong. Many diseases ? like heart disease ? have no symptoms until it?s too late.

Health coaching isn?t for everyone. Like anything, it?s almost impossible to succeed without first having a passion for what you?re pursuing. Even if you have a passion for health, you?ll also need to have or develop other skills. Presentation skills, marketing skills, and business sense all play vital roles in the business.

Some people may disagree, but to Hilton Johnson, a passion for making money must be at the top of your list before becoming a health coach. Money isn?t important to people who already have it. It?s essential for those without money to succeed in their ventures, though. Only after you succeed can you begin making a difference in the world through donations.

So, what exactly does a health coach do anyway? They’re a guide. They help clients find balance in their health and life. Just because you “feel okay” doesn’t mean you’re healthy. Most people don’t eat or exercise properly, they have a lot of stress in their life, and they have bad habits like smoking or drinking. Some people are oblivious to underlying conditions like diabetes as well.

Create a plan of action in your life using a health coach to guide you. They can help you carry out your plan so that you aren’t kicking yourself after another failed attempt at a New Year’s Resolution. Change your life, and become dedicated to the health of yourself and others.

Acupuncture: An Effective Treatment for Heart Disease

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

There are many drugs on the market that can be used to help heart disease. However, with any drug a patient risks the possibility of side effects. Therefore, many people are turning to alternative medicine practices to help treat heart disease without the harmful side effects of drugs.

A popular alternative treatment that shows promise in helping patients to manage their heart condition, or avoid developing one, is acupuncture. Acupuncture has been used by the Chinese for centuries to enhance health and wellbeing, through the use of small needles which are inserted into appropriate locations in the body.

According to the Chinese, acupuncture helps to move energy that may have become obstructed. It removes the obstructive forces and changes the flow of energy. And more and more scientists approve of this procedure.

Studies have shown that acupuncture can be used to reduce blood pressure and thereby lower the risk of heart disease. It has also been shown to reduce the incidence of angina, blood vessel spasms in the heart that cause pain. And people who were treated by acupuncture for angina were able to recovery more quickly from an attack than those on pharmaceutical treatment.

There usually is no pain associated with acupuncture because of the size of the needles. You wouldn’t think so, but it can actually be a calming treatment. After the needles are placed in strategic spots, you can just lie down and rest.

Before choosing an acupuncturist, do a little homework to make sure of certification by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. This tells you that your acupuncturist has the training required to practice this type of medicine and continues to refresh their education.

Acupuncture is covered by some medical insurance, but most people will probably have to pay out of pocket. Visits range widely in cost across the country. It’s a good idea to call several practitioners in your area to find out about the going rate.

It usually takes several sessions to get the effect you desire. However, the cost and time may be worth it because acupuncture carries no harmful side effects and may reduce your dependence on expensive medications.

Some people are unsure about alternative medicine therapies, but a quick look online can show you that science is beginning to come around to this ancient form of medicine. The Chinese have been practicing it for centuries, and Westerners really are the ones behind the times.

So it appears that modern research is validating the ancient practice of acupuncture as a viable alternative to traditional medications in the treatment of heart disease.

Use Cholestorol Medications to Improve Personal Health

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Today, the number of American adults who should seek medical advice in order to reduce their high blood cholesterol levels has reached over 100 million. One medication which has limited side effects and is known to lower cholesterol levels and fight heart disease whilst Americans are continually getting larger are statins.

There are things that can help you fight this problem. This article is designed to teach you how to do something about your cholesterol problems. First we will take a brief look at what cholesterol is and then we will show you how statin medications, prescribed by your doctor, can make you healthier. To treat high cholesterol there are many different types of statins, and we will review them for you.

Cholesterol a waxy, fat like substance shows itself naturally in cell membranes and walls throughout your body. Producing hormones is one of the uses of cholesterol. If there is too much cholesterol in your bloodstream problems begin to surface.

If it seems impossible to reduce your cholesterol levels using natural treatments your doctor may resolve to having you take cholesterol reducing medications like statins. Of these medications we will be focusing on statins. Even if you begin taking statins it is imperative that you follow through with natural, lifestyle treatments as well.

It is important that you first know what statins are and how they help to reduce your cholesterol. Statins suppress HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme. HMG-CoA reductase monitors the rate that cholesterol creates itself in the body. Statins have been proven to lower cholesterol from 20% to 60%. Statins simultaneously increase the liver’s capability to withdraw Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL) while slowing the production of cholesterol. There is no other drug that successfully lowers the LDL levels better than statins.

While decreasing triglycerides and total cholesterol, statins can also create a moderate increase of High Density Lipoproteins (HDL). Within 4 to 6 weeks of starting the medications positive results are normally seen. Lowering heart attack risks, strokes, and other high cholesterol level related coronary diseases are what statins have been demonstrated to do.

It is not advised to take statins if any of the following pertain to you: allergies to statins themselves or their ingredients; you have a history of myopathy; you have renal failure; you consistently consume inordinate amounts of alcohol; you have liver disease; or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Consult your physician if you are unsure whether or not statin medications are right for you.

Brand names of statins that you might recognize are Lipitor, Lescol, Mevacor, Altocor, Pravahol, Zocor and Crestor. There are some drug and/or food interactions that you should be aware of. More than one quart of grapefruit juice per day can decrease the ability of the liver to process some statins. More importantly there may be other medications that can interact and cause serious side effects.

If you are taking prescription drugs or even OTC drugs such as: herbal supplements; medications for infections, immune system, heart failure, HIV or AIDS; birth control pills; Coumadin; or other cholesterol reducing drugs make sure to inform your doctor prior to using statins.

Although unlikely, it is possible for side effects to appear from the use of statins. If you happen to experience the following: vomiting, discolored urine, pain, muscle soreness, stomach pain, or weakness immediately stop taking the medication and contact your doctor.
