Exposed, Skin Care Secrets
Friday, April 11th, 2008There are millions of people around the world who suffer with acne (Zits); treatments however, are slowly improving. Owing the widespread nature of this condition, scientific research into this area is intense; as a result there are a variety of new products available to help prevent and treat skin conditions. For those people that require treatment, the acne skin care products required fall broadly into a number of categories including: *Drugstore: Preventative treatment *Drugstore: Relief treatment *Prescription only treatments.
Many skin care products are used as a measure to prevent acne; these include cleansers, make-up removers and other similar products that can help prevent the condition. Many people these days use products like this to maintain their skin; in many instances the user has never had a skin condition to worry about. Other acne skin care products, like skin cleansers for instance, are more specific about their job; they clean out the pores to help stop sebum or oil which can clog these areas. Excess oil needs to be stopped from clogging the pores as this oil make it easier for bacteria to grow, exacerbating the condition.
Skin care treatments such as exfoliation skin peels, clean the skin and help control the spread of the condition; there is now a variety of this type of product available over the counter. The peels clean the skin by removing all surface pollution and dead skin cells which can block the pores. There are specialized acne skin care products available over-the-counter, they do not require the need of a prescription. These products have benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as ingredients which cause a bad reaction in the bacterium. they are designed to extract the excess oil that bacteria need to promote the development of acne.
Dermatologists recommend any product should have low concentrations of the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide (no more than 5.5 parts per hundred) if there is an adverse reaction; a safer alternative to benzoyl peroxide is anything containing alpha hydroxy acid. Because we all have different types of skin, more than one type of acne skin care product may need to be tried; if nothing you use is effective then speak to your dermatologist for advice. If you do need to see your doctor or skin care specialist then he may give you a prescription for antibiotics or special ointments.
Your doctor can recommend that in order to extract the contents of the pustules that a small surgical procedure could be carried out; specialists never recommend the sufferer tries this themselves as it can cause permanent skin damage. Hormone treatment might be suggested as hormone changes can cause skin problems; hormone changes are known to be one cause of acne. There is no longer any reason to despair if you have this skin complaint or are prone to its effects.
