Menopause and Acne - The Reason is the Changes In Hormones

Many women get acne as a result of going through menopause and for some women going through menopause, acne and skin blemishes are problems indeed.

Most women haven't had acne since their teens or early twenties, yet now the pimples and blemishes are now reappearing.

Ironically the early years of womanhood, especially the teens, have a number of things in common with the events occurring during menopause.

That being, ... changes in hormone levels. Puberty in the early years and the increases in hormones and with menopause comes the decrease in hormones.

It is difficult for most women to, as they did in their teens, suffer through the embarrassment of acne and skin blemishes while the are dealing with the other symptoms of menopause.

There are times during our lives when our hormones become unbalanced , especially puberty, pregnancy, menopause. The raging hormones ( estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and DHEA) cause the oil glands (sebaceous glands) to produce excess skin oil (sebum) and the hair follicles, specifically the facial hair follicles, get clogged with the excess oil and dead skin cells.
