May mean having no appetite and never being hungry, or being constantly hungry and always eating. This could bring on significant weight gain or weight loss.
* Changes in Your Sleeping Pattern
A depressed person will have trouble with their normal sleeping patterns. Not being able to fall asleep, waking numerous times during the night and have troubles getting up in the morning.
* Procrastination
Depressed persons are likely to avoid making decisions in their lives. This comes along with other symptoms including the loss of enthusiasm, tiredness and lack of energy.
* Feeling Hopeless
A feeling of being worthless and believing that the depressed persons life has no merit.
For some this feeling is so intense that suicide seems like a good option.
* Drinking to Much
Drinking more than normal, even to the point of alcoholism.
To summarize
Depression can affect anyone, of any age, and can be brought on by financial problems, a divorce or a breakup; a lack of emotional support from a spouse, significant other or even friends can bring on depression.
For the elderly, physical problems, like arthritis, could mask some symptoms and diseases, such as Alzheimer's or dementia could be mistaken for problems or be the reason for the depression.
If some of the symptoms that are listed above apply to you, you speak to you doctor or a psychologist so as to accurately assess your problem.
Many people shy away from visiting doctors for a case of depression, either because they feel too ashamed that they are unable to handle the problem on their own without any help or they feel that they don’t have a problem that can be helped by medicine.
On the contrary, there are many ways of treating depression that can be helpful in bringing a person back to feeling good about life and having energy.
