Do You Think About Acid Reflux and The Possibility You May Have It?
The more you know about acid reflux or any other disease, the greater chance you have of preventing problems and treating it. Acid reflux is suffered by approximately thirty five percent of the population and tends to have a greater effect on those who are overweight.
Acid reflux is the result excess acid in the stomach. and this usually the result of poor dietary habits, eating high fat or greasy foods, an ulcer, digestive problems, or stress. By visiting a doctor, a person will be able to know how their body is reacting and how they can change their lifestyle to help stop the pain the acid reflux can cause.
Acid reflux disease is never easy when you are first suffering from the symptoms, even after the diagnosis, or while you start the process of changing your diet and treating the problem.
If you suffer from acid reflux you likely will have little choice but completely change your lifestyle, including changing your diet to being low in fat and low in acidity, exercising more, daily walks may be what you need, leaving stressful work environments, and getting better sleep.
These changes cannot occur all at once. They will need to be done over time, but once these issues have been resolved, a person can begin living their life again and greatly reduce the acid reflux.
While there is no "cure" for acid reflux, acid reflux IS "controllable" by most sufferers.
Acid reflux sufferers may experience mild heart burn, indigestion,or even a shortness of breath. This can escalate as the days and weeks progress, but they may not realize they have acid reflux until they talk with their doctor.
Other symptoms may include the development of a cough which can lead to hoarseness or even losing your voice for days at a time, or a sour taste in the mouth upon waking, after all you've been lying down for 6 - 8 hours and stomach acid can easily move up the esophagus.
* Other Potential Causes of Acid Reflux *
* Both smoking and alcohol can really contribute to an acid reflux problem. If you smoke the acidity in your stomach is increased. Also, nicotine is known to relax the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) muscle , which is one of the leading causes of an acid reflux. Alcohol performs much of the same process on the LES, causing it to relax and allowing stomach acid to move up the esophagus.
* Also being overweight puts pressure on their stomach while sleeping due to the weight of the abdomen, and this can weaken the LES to a point where acid reflux occurs. This also can occur in pregnant women; the additional weight of the baby can put a lot of added pressure on the stomach.
Eating properly and getting enough rest and exercise your body needs will definitely help your acid reflux condition.
A diet that is not based on greasy foods and alcohol will greatly reduce the occurrences of acid reflux. While these foods may be difficult to give up right away, over time a person will learn to live without them.
Learning how to prepare good food that is high in protein and low in fat will help in keeping acid reflux from hurting your life.
